StartingIt's nice that the program automatically starts with an interface in the language corresponding to the regional parameters of your computer - no additional settings are required.
The main screen is quite traditional for this type of program, although there are more menu items than, for example, in MS Word.
Well, you can also open the file by double-clicking on an empty document field. Perhaps it is more convenient for someone.
A second after hovering the mouse over any button, a hint about its functions appears.
Main functionsI will not consider everything that is in the program, we will focus on testing the editing. The main buttons are traditionally placed on the main menu.
The "Select Text" button allows you to do what is written on it. :) The selected text can be copied and pasted into any text editor.
In all PDF documents, images and text exist separately - you cannot select a fragment of a document containing both text and an image (as we are doing in text editors). Therefore, another button - "Snapshot" is responsible for the selection of pictures. In fact, this is really not a tool for working with images, but just a screenshot. In this case, preliminary, you can select only the fragment that is needed, which, of course, is much more convenient than the traditional print screen. Then this fragment can be inserted into a graphics editor, or simply into MS Word, for example.

The "Find" button is clear for what. Conveniently, the found text is highlighted throughout the document.
Let's skip the "View" group.
The next big button is "Edit", which when you click on the bottom corner reveals four options. For what this - I don't understand, because the default option ("All content") covers everything shown below. Nevertheless, in order to use this tool, it is imperative to expand the menu and click on one of the items, even if it already has a checkmark. Strange approach.
As for the actual editing, it is limited to dragging and resizing the fragment - you cannot add letters to the text.
The next button is "Add" (text, image or barcode). The added fragment can be moved - for example, to the place of the text that you want to change. So this is essentially editing, of course, less convenient than in a text editor.
The item "Add barcode" allows you to create your own QR code, with a link to VCard, URL, text, e-mail or phone number. Interesting thing.
The next button "Selection" is not clear for what it is needed, since everything that is offered there can be done simply by copying and pasting.
Next is a group of six buttons. "Typewriter" is the same as "Add Text", but the default font is different, apparently imitating the font of a typewriter. By the way, the font of the created test fragments can be changed via the "Text Style" in the context menu. But, with the existing text, this cannot be done.
The marker highlights the text with color. The color can be changed by right-clicking on the icon.
The style of the underline implemented by the third button is changed in the same way - by pressing the right mouse button.
The other three buttons - "Note", "Arrow" and "Rectangle" are responsible for inserting the corresponding element and are also formatted using the right mouse button.
The "Stamp" button inserts a stamp into the document. The library contains some stamps, but you can insert your own. True, for this you first have to draw it in another program.
The "Link" button inserts a link to a website in the selected text.
The same can be done with the following "Links" button, which creates links to other objects:
- the page of the current document
- another document page
- attached document page
- web page
- a command composed of scripts of a fairly large library, which, in addition to working with the current document, allow you to automate, for example, sending it by e-mail
- reset data in completed forms
- submitting forms
- show or hide form fields
- video file
- sound file
- the mysterious item "Reading an article", which has, but does not work. The site says "under construction". It is not very clear why it is needed right now.
The "Add Bookmark" item is intended for creating bookmarks in the document, which can then be referred to (for example, in the table of contents).
The "Sign Document" button is designed to work with a digital signature. Accordingly, a digital certificate is required.
This concludes the main tab.
The "Comment" tab is intended for creating notes. We have already seen some buttons on the main panel. In addition, there are tools for drawing, for measuring distance, perimeter and area, basic geometric shapes, as well as a group of buttons for working with comments. Everything is quite simple, I think no explanations are needed.
On the "Protect" tab, in addition to tools for working with digital signatures, it is possible to set password protection for opening a document, as well as for editing and printing it. For printing without password, you can separately set the low or high print resolution and the degree of control over the print settings. You can also enable or disable copying of document content.
The "Forms" tab is dedicated to creating and editing forms. Operations performed during actions on form elements are set similarly to programming the "Links" button discussed above. In general, creating forms is not an easy task for a beginner. This requires a separate consideration.
The "Organize" tab is intended for working with pages.
You can insert at the beginning, end of the document or after the specified page:
- one or more blank pages
- pages from a file of a supported format (PDF, text, images, MS Office files)
- directly from the scanner.
The "Extract Pages" button allows you to split the document into separate files, in accordance with the specified parameters
The rest of the buttons do what is written on them :) there is nothing special to comment.
The "Convert" tab is responsible for creating and importing / exporting documents. Creation is possible from a blank page, a page received from a scanner, and from files - several PDF, text, RTF, images and Markdown files (if you don't know what it is, then you don't need it :).
The "Rasterize Pages" button allows you to convert text to image. I don’t know what this might be for.
The document can be converted into a picture. 14 image formats are available, all major ones are present.
Then there are the export buttons to Word, Excel and PowerPoint, but there is no particular point in this, since it will still not work to edit the resulting files - everything is inserted in the form of images, even a text.
"OCR Pages" button. I thought that this is the main thing for which the program was created - recognition of PDF text and uploading it to a regular text editor, Word, for example. But no, this function is designed to recognize pages received from the scanner in the image format in order to get a PDF document. Two buttons next to it are intended to improve the scan before recognition. Considering that most scanners can immediately save a scan to PDF, it is not so necessary...
The last button is intended for converting the document colors to any of the preset color profiles. Perhaps setting the printer's color profile will result in clearer printing of the document. I can't think of what else it can be used for.
The "Share" tab has a single functional button "e-mail", which either creates a letter with an open document attachment (using the default mail client), or saves a PDF file and an accompanying text document in a specific folder. The rest of the buttons are intended for collective work with documents in MS SharePoint, which is not relevant for a home user.
The "Review" panel is intended for creating notes and comments in the text.
The "Text correction" button, contrary to its name, serves for annotations - with its help you can specify which text fragments need to be deleted, inserted or replaced.
The "Word Count" button shows document statistics (not just word count :).
Use the "Bookmarks" panel to create markers that you can then reference. Thus, for example, a table of contents is created.
There are many tools, not all of them are simple and you may only need them if you decide to create large-scale PDF documents. In ordinary life, it is enough just to be able to make a bookmark, but for this you just need to right-click on the selected fragment and select the corresponding item of the context menu.
Free version limitation - saving the modified document possible only with the addition of two advertising logos at the beginning of all pages. They can be deleted in the same editor, if conscience allows and not too lazy to do this on each page.
Supported operating systems - Windows XP and above.
The program is available in two versions - installation and portable. In the second case, it is enough just to unpack the archive into any folder and then launch XChange Editor from this folder.
